Every so often I like to dye a new base to see how it dyes, and check out the texture/feel. These skeins are a fascinating blend of wool, cotton, linen, and soy that are made right here in the USA. When dyeing these I could tell they are less processed than my other bases. When wet, they had a bit of a fresh-from-the-farm smell. It's not a bad smell, it's an earthy, natural wool smell. This base is similar to yarn you could buy directly from a farm at a fiber arts festival. They do not have the smoothness of superwash merino wool (they haven't been processed like that), and linen isn't soft until its been used/worn. These are a fun airy base that I thought some people might want to try in the warmer summer months.
These two colorways are listed together only because they pair nicely. You can buy both colorways, OR just one colorway.
The dye I use does not dye plant fibers, so the cotton, linen, and soy remain neutral and give these skeins a muted/less saturated color and some texture. You can see this best in the second photo.
SUNSET - maroon, golden yellow, earthy green, forest green, turquoise
GOLDEN ORCHARD - golden yellow
Yards: +\- 160, 50 grams
Weight/Base: Limited Edition, DK weight
Fiber: 50% wool, 20% cotton, 15% linen, 15% soya
Care instructions: hand wash, lay flat and shape to dry.
NOTE: Most tap water has a higher than desirable (for hand-dyed wool) pH level. You can neutralize this by simply adding 2 tablespoons, per gallon of water, of white vinegar to your wash water. That will neutralize the pH levels and help maintain the vibrant colors.
