About Yarn Baby

Creativity has always been an important part of my life. Prior to the birth of my business, Yarn Baby, I taught music in public schools for 10 years. The birth of my son changed everything. I went from teaching full-time to part-time, then eventually stopped teaching all together when my second child was born.

My mom taught me how to crochet while I was pregnant with my oldest child. Her goal was to help me reduce the anxiety. I have struggled with anxiety my entire life and it was particularly bad during my pregnancy. I didn't take crocheting very seriously until my son was born. He only liked blankets made of yarn and I started calling him my “Yarn Baby.” I learned how to crochet so I could make him a new baby blanket after the one he loved began to fall apart. Little did my mom or I know how this new hobby would evolve into a successful business!

After crocheting with many types of yarn, I fell in love with hand-spun and hand-dyed yarn. I took a spinning class from a LYS, then started dyeing my own roving. That evolved into dyeing yarn, which was the beginning of the Yarn Baby brand. I have since learned to knit and hope to take up weaving in the near future.

I have been dyeing yarn since 2013 in my home in Northern Colorado. I enjoy dyeing speckled yarn, tonals, and variegated colorways. Experimenting with colors and different dye methods/techniques is my passion.

THANK YOU for being here! Every single order is deeply appreciated. We live a modest life and your business helps keep my kids and I going. Your business is greatly appreciated!

Much love,
Shannon
