Evolution of Yarn Baby

Creativity has always been an important part of my life. Prior to the birth of my business, Yarn Baby, I taught music in public schools for 10 years. When I became a mom, spending more time with my babies became a high priority. I went from teaching full-time to part-time, then eventually stopped teaching all together when my second child was born.

Next came the YARN! My first baby only liked blankets made of yarn, so I started calling him my little “Yarn Baby” -- giving rise to the name of my shop. My kids are older now, but they still have a strong preference for blankets made of yarn. My mom taught me how to crochet while I was pregnant with my oldest child. Her goal was to reduce the anxiety I have had my whole life which was particularly bad during my pregnancy. Crocheting became a necessity when my son's favorite blankie needed to be replaced. Little did my mom know how this new hobby would grow!

After crocheting with many types of yarn, I fell in love with hand-spun and hand-dyed yarn. I took a spinning class from a LYS, then started dyeing my own roving. That evolved into dyeing yarn, which was the beginning of the Yarn Baby brand. I have since learned to knit and hope to take up weaving in the near future.

I have been dyeing yarn since 2013 in my home in Northern Colorado. I enjoy dyeing speckled yarn, tonals, and variegated colorways. Experimenting with colors and different dye methods/techniques is my passion. I love to fly by the seat of my pants during a dye session. The results produce unique, often one-of-a-kind colorways.

I hope you enjoy my colorful experiments!
