Yarn Bases

SOCK WEIGHT BASES:
ATHENA SOCK/FINGERING: These are LUXURIOUS! 70% superwash merino, 20% yak, and 10% nylon, +/- 437 yards, 100g skein, 3 ply. The yak in these skeins is dark and even at 20%, they make the natural/undyed skeins gray. That makes dyeing these a unique challenge so colorways on this base will not look the same on other bases who are naturally a white/cream color. I like this base for sweaters, shawls, cowls, cardigans, etc. They are "smooth like buttah!"

TABITHA SOCK/FINGERING: 80% micron 19.5 superwash merino (the lower the micron number the finer/softer the wool. Micron 19.5 is VERY fine), 20% nylon, +/-450 yards, 100g. They are a lighter fingering weight and the drape is out-of-this-world fabulous. I like this base for shawls, scarves, snuggly cardigans, etc.

SPORT WEIGHT BASE(S):
SALEM SPORT: 100% superwash merino, +/-325 yards, 100g. This base is a 3-ply yarn. If you hold two strands double, you get a perfect worsted weight. I like this base for beanies, gloves/mittens, any outerwear, shawls, socks, sweaters, etc.

DK WEIGHT BASE(S):
ANNABETH DK:  85% fine superwash merino, 15% mulberry silk, +/-246 yards, 100g, 2 ply. These skeins have visible plys, giving them a unique texture. The silk gives the skeins a beautiful shine! So lovely! I like this base for garmets that are worn next to your skin; cowls, scarfs, sweaters, etc.

PERCY DK:
75% superwash merino, 25% nylon, +/-246 yards, 100g, 4-ply. Lovely drape and durability, and very soft! I use this base for any pattern that calls for DK weight yarn.

ARAN/WORSTED WEIGHT BASE(S):
WILMA WORSTED/ARAN: 100% superwash merino, +/-210 yards, 115g, 4-ply. I've had this base for over a decade. It's my favorite worsted weight yarn. It's a little thicker that other worsted weight skeins, and I've used it to make everything. I especially love sweaters and blankets.

BULKY WEIGHT BASE(S):
BFF BULKY: 100% superwash merino, +/-109 yards, 100g, single-ply, thick and thin roving yarn. This yarn base behaves similarly to handspun yarn. The thick and thin gives finished items a lovely texture. It's so fun to work with this base. It's nice for beanies and thick sweaters.

URSULA BULKY: 100% FINE superwash merino, +/-109 yards, 100g, 2-ply. This yarn is so plump and springy - it's like a cloud. Perfect for any bulky project.

LIMITED EDITIONS:
This category is for discontinued bases, and new bases I like to try just for fun. Chances are that when they're gone, they are gone. But everyone needs to try new things every once in awhile, so here they are.

NOTE: Most tap water has a higher than desirable (for hand-dyed wool)  pH level. You can neutralize this by simply adding 2 tablespoons, per gallon of water, of white vinegar to your wash water. That will neutralize the pH levels and help maintain the vibrant colors. In addition, I suggest always washing finished items by hand with a gentle wool wash, lay flat and shape to dry.
